October takes us to the home of Kelly McCutcheon, we'll be reading and discussing Dry: A Memoir by Augusten Burroughs.

When his associates at a high-profile Madison Avenue ad agency blame booze fumes for the loss of a huge potential client, Augusten, the narrator of Dry, is called to the carpet. As his superior is explaining his options, Augusten's inner monologue speaks, "It's horrible, but I immediately think I can't wait to tell Jim [his drinking buddy] about what's happening right now, when we have drinks later." more....

Augusten Burroughs was born in Pittsburgh, PA. in 1965. Raised in Western Massachusetts, he has lived in Boston, San Francisco, Chicago and New York. Augusten has been a dog trainer, candy store clerk, waiter, sail cutter (for one day), store detective and, from the age of 19, an advertising copywriter. Augusten also happens to be the 18th grandson of King James the Second of Scotland. Although this has done him exactly no good in life. He now lives in Manhattan and Western Massachsetts with his better half Dennis and their two dogs, Bentley and CowCow. Augusten now writes full time.

Last Month...

I'm still laughing at some of the things about this weekend I loved...

---OH SH*T realizing I packed WAY more than everybody else...(strangely I only ended up wearing 2 of my 30+ outfits...) ---Seeing Kim actually IN the trunk of the car organizing the suitcases!!! Of course she fits! (Damn I didn't get a picture of that, damn I didn't get any pictures!) ---Spooking Debbie in her car while she was waiting for us to pick her up on the way to the beach... ---You all laughing when, after dinner in Annapolis, I said, "So, we have like, half an hour till we're there, right?" ---Kim parking like 10 feet away from the top of her parking space when we stopped at the gas station (?). Couldn't see above the car's hood! (note to self: get Kim a phone book to sit on in her car)---just kidding! ---Everybody using "tanning" lotion, & me with my #50 sunscreen... ---How Melissa & I must have looked as we walked back to the beach from taking a bathroom break; Melissa naked except for her bathing suit; me wearing my bathing suit, shorts, a t-shirt & a sweater on top of that...brrrr.... ---The menu flying up and hitting Melissa in the face at the outside restaurant Sat. night...(you all missed it...) ---The strange pieces of seafood (crablegs?) that Kim sprayed all over me Saturday night (hope you guys didn't let me walk around with pieces of crab on me---that looked strangely like brain matter---all over my face, neck, hair & shoulders after dinner...how macabre...) ---and lastly, the wonderful navigating....."go left, go right, go west young man, stay in this lane, pull over..." that almost culminated in us in a dead stop on the beltway... Poor Mary, the person who hates to drive the most getting stuck in the most confusing traffic, with 4 people giving her 4 different directions...(good job, Mary, you got us where we needed to go!)

And that weird rainstorm that happened Saturday night, wow, that was pretty cool.

Thanks for so much fun.

Love you guys! You're a great bunch to vacation with.

Kelly
